A short film festival
dedicated to psychoanalysis

The Inner Frame Film Festival is an evening of short films created by psychoanalysts and others who are deeply connected to psychoanalytic thought, treatment and practice.  It is a community event created for discussion and dialogue around unconscious dynamics, the experiences that take place in the therapeutic process and the powerful ideas about psychic life that help shape our understanding of ourselves and others.

Created and funded by PEP-Web.org (the online archive of everything psychoanalytic), the Inner Frame Festival showcases six films each under ten minutes and each of which offers unique insights into various aspects of psychoanalytic thought.

Each film is also a collaborative process between the analytic therapist and some combination of illustrators, animators, filmmakers, videographers and other artists help bring to life something of the emotional experience of the psychoanalytic encounter (an emotional experience —sometimes within one person, sometimes between people and sometimes with the ideas themselves).

The first evening of this soon-to-be annual and soon-to-be international film festival will take place on November 5, 2026 at the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center, New York, New York. Please join us for conversation, reflection and engagement.

Thanks to a grant from the American Psychoanalytic Foundation, the festival will also be doing a West Coast tour in 2027 and can be seen in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego.

Be sure to look for updates for times and locations.
